Think You Would Like to Work at Home? Try Blogging

By: Robert McCluskey

I have often written about my excellent good fortune in getting caught up with personal computers in the first years of their existence.  I was more or less immediately addicted because I am a fact junkie and obsessed with time utilization and organization.  I got compensated for gratifying these impulses in my primary career, so I became expert at them.  At the same time, I harbored some other yearnings, as well.  I very much enjoyed writing and design.  My work with PCs provided me the tools to pursue these interests but I didn't have the time until I retired from my former career.  If your story is akin to mine, you may want to become involved in blogging, like I did.

The word "blog" is a contraction of the words "web log" a sort of "diary" that is distributed on the Internet.  When you spot the word "diary" you may think about clandestine journalism, but a blog is certainly not that; it can be any variety of material that one puts out in a sequential manner.  A blog can hold as much or as little worthwhile to potential adherents as you want.  On the other hand, if your purpose is to ultimately make some income from the blog, you have to publish content that draws folks to the blog site.  Earning an income, of course, is what this blog is concerned with:  work from home jobs.

Blogging is quite a bit different from free-lance writing in a number of ways:

Its installments are on-going, without an expected stopping point.  A blog commonly pertains to a topic. Nevertheless, the "chapters" (or "posts") do not typically reach a final culmination, or finale.  Every post is a commentary on the blog focus that begins and ends inside itself.

It is "stream-of-consciousness" authoring.  If you want to skip from one thought to another like a Ferlinghetti poem, go right ahead.  On the other hand, if you want to coordinate your articles in some way before you start, that's even better.  Many people will be drawn to the structured handling of a theme.  Moreover, you can utilize the long-term results as the foundation for an actual "book," or comparable conventional publication.

You can work without schedules  Some bloggers set objectives for themselves; others do not.  You can post every single day, once a month, or at random.  You set the schedule.

There is no particular financial value attached to a blog column.  If you describe yourself a "freelancer" you imply that you plan to be paid for a particular piece of work.  Bloggers rarely get paid for their articles directly. A few of them are able to charge a subscription fee for their blogs, but this is exceptional.  As well, as I mentioned above, you may combine some of your articles into comprehensive publications and present them for sale.  Ultimately you should not rely on "selling" your writing products via a blog.  You can, however, sell advertising space on it.  Selling blog ads is one of the preeminent methods to begin to make money from home

Blogs are very low-cost and simple to start. This is one of their greatest advantages.  If you have access to a personal computer and Internet link, and you can string a few comprehensible paragraphs together, you can blog.

There are many opportunities for starting a blog.  I recommend that you start by utilizing a free-of-charge "hosted" blog site that does everything with the exception of the authoring for you.  I am going to exemplify this method with a system called "Blogger," but there are quite a few others.

Blogger is a system owned and operated by Google and can be found at http://www.blogger.com.  When you arrive at the Blogger site you will be encouraged to log in with your Google account ID.  Those who have never registered for an account with Google will have to do so. Once you are registered and logged in you will be writing your first post on a fully functioning blog within a few minutes.  Now, begin authoring!
