Ski Resorts Installing Dynamic Outside Marketing

By: Max Gallagher

The ski term is coming up fast and various ski resorts are looking into working with outdoor digital signage hardware, so that holiday-makers can see right away what is happening in a exact area.

There are three ways of deploying outdoor dynamic signage, they are as follows:

" Displaying resort sights - interactive
" Displaying which ski runs are open and which are closed
" Showing a menu for bistros

Five years ago we visited Lapland with the offspring in search of "Father Christmas", our trip lasted 5 days and we all enjoyed it, (I think I enjoyed it more than the children!)

However two things stick in my mind that I remember: the first is that the village of Levy had just been developed and the daily actions left 3 hours of free time per day as well as your evenings and the second was that all through the resort there was information screens for the holiday-makers.

The information displays were interactive and based in a few of the lodge foyers so they were protected, but now with the progress of technology, we will undoubtedly see a huge rise on this type of outside digital signage.

Dynamic menus.
Now eating places can show their digital menu in the reception area so when holidaymakers get a warming beverage and are waiting to be seated for their meal they can see the tempting menu and already be aware of the promotional offers that are in progress. This works two fold; it speeds up the ordering process so the cafe proprietors can turn over more covers and it permits the eaterie manager to control the specials on offer.
Which ski run is open?

There is nothing worse than waiting in line for the ski lift only to get to the ski run you sought after and to be told it has been shut, now using heated LCD enclosures in a resort these can help in less annoyed travelers, as on the TV can display the opened and closed runs for each particular day, these can be upgraded using the latest in wireless hardware to update the skiers on potential issues.

Tourist information.
Many ski resorts have a, from here normally there is some form of visitor information centre, but the most effective way is to run an touch screen tourist information solution and this can provide up to date data on which eating houses have availability for that evening without the anger and hassle of visiting to each eaterie only to realize there is a long waiting period.

Another issue is if you need medical aid, using the interactive LCD enclosure you can select who is on call and for what, so if you need a dentist or a health practitioner you have their contact details instantly.

This is why outside electronic signage is so good, is can be used for a large amount of uses, once it is fitted, providing the casing is heated the equipment inside will last as long as the enclosures they are in.
Bear this information in mind when traveling to your next ski resort and keep an eye out for the dynamic outside advertising hardware.
