Secret Solution Blog Crash

Blog crash! Log in to your article rich blog and discover to your shock - 0 Posts! What!!! What? Where was all the content? - vanished into virtual neverland! Scrambling for several useless minutes through settings and menus yielded a sickening understanding - this was an genuine catastrophe, and not simply a glitch. Desperately I tried pasting in an article, but I could not post - save function was disabled.

Okay, time to find out. An hour searching Google turned up one reference, at bigblogtechguy.com, hosted by Joel Williams, who offered the resolution. The difficulty? My crashed blog database. The fix? Repair my blog's database. Kidos to Joel for a straight forward explanation. He nailed it.

I went to Host Gator and started a live support chat, told him my problem, and he knew right away what was required. He was gone a short bit, then told me to check my blog. Ta daa, all was restored! Database restored! He informed me I neither caused it, nor would have been able to anticipate it - just sometime happens. I expressed gratitude for his saving me from a coronary.

This harrowing incident had a happy ending. But I got a dual lesson. First, happily I am with Host Gator. There's a reason for their first-rate reputation. Thank goodness I took my company's counsel to host my blog with Host Gator. Their tech's instant recognition of the problem and his fix of the crash without calling a supervisor, or worse, sending me down the incorrect path, is a testament to their training and know-how.

Second - back up! Yes, yes...we already know this and we suppose, any day now I will. Well, what about now? I just stored my original written content into Google docs, my photos to Picasaweb and Photobucket, and my website videos and Power Points to esnips.com. Backup straight away, and if you have a database crash, be calm, it's not the end..
