Search Engine Advantages

By: Christopher Schill

If ever the net would have a grocery store, I would like to think it is the Web site of a particular search engine. Search engines allow greater efficiency in finding many different sites about the same topic. This is also the one of the first noticeable source of problem when using the Web. An immense collection of retrieved and indexed Web documents from the large data base of search engines. Deciding on the best search engine to use is as tough as choosing the most efficient way to search.

Search engines use robots or spiders that are geared to pick out information from Websites. An automatic machine is utilized by the search engine to thoroughly explore the site and all its links along with recording the text of each Web document. Finding things with a search engine is often done using word clues or ideas. Searching through a keyword is so easy but it may also give results that are not related to what you are looking for.

Finding the date and time of your favorite college football team is possible by keying in football. A drawback is that results yielded will not only show you listings of several different football teams but might also list companies that make or sell footballs or all anything else that has to do with football. The more specific you are in your search, the faster it is for you to locate what you are searching for.

A list of categories containing a list of sites or a massive list of sites may show up after your search. The listing of sites might be too bulky and may cause a longer time in picking out the most suitable one for your search. Employing categories help yield finer results due to the similar sites that you will be provided. Many search engines give you the capability to combine words during a search using boolean operators. Boolean operators are words that are used to help define a relation between words or a group of words. Many operators are available but commonly used are 'and' and 'or'.

Your search will pick out documents only when they have both the words you have specified whenever you use 'and'. This trims down a search. 'Or' means that at least one of the terms must appear in the document. It will be a broader search if you use the 'or' operator because by this you are trying to say you want one or both terms in the resultant document.

Among the search engines on the Web, yahoo is one of the most frequently visited. Anyone will not have a hard time searching for information and sites on the Web using this Website. The Google search engine was conceptualized by two people at Stanford University. A generated list will be displayed seconds after typing in your search criteria.

Someone I know believes that altavista deals more on businesses than individuals. I would say that is probably more opinion than fact but either way it is another good site. A list will be generated by the site showing the number of matches to the given keyword as well as the Websites with brief descriptions. It is possible for the site to change the language of a Website in the generated search from English to another language.
