Roofing Company Houston Insider Tips
5 KEY Questions YOU Should Before Hiring A Contractor
Evade the Home Improvement nightmares by using these insider guidelines
When we studied these questions, we phrased them in a way that will allow you to tell who is experienced based on their answers along with which companies are operated in a professional and safe behavior .
it is essential to know that 76% of homeowners surveyed after a having home improvement performed on their home reported they had a dispute with their contractor, and 66% required interference from an outside source.
We advocate that you let each Contractor know that you will ask for verification to their answers (this will prevent the temptation to exaggerate)
So let us get started
1) How many years have you been in business... under this business name?
Failure rate is extremely high in the Home improvement industry for businesses under the 8 year mark ..so do without some of the serious issues that can come with younger the businesses
it is common in the Home Improvement industry to overstate the amount of years in business by stating their total years in the industry.
Try to pass up anyone with less than 10 years of business history, This will help insure that a level of steadiness and service is provided thought your project
2) What are the Wind Zone requirements in my area? Depending on where you live, the requirements for installation will vary drastically. Make sure that the person you choose is aware of these standards and follows the strict installation guidelines. They should be able to tell you which wind zone your are in. Non complaince can nullify your insurance
3) Do you really need to Permit projects like this? This is a trick question because the answer should be Yes, without a doubt.
If your project is not permitted, it is common now, for the city to require that all previous work be completely remove/torn down and redone under the permit requirements at the expense of the Home Owner
4) What type of insurance do you carry?
Any Contractor that you consider for your project must have 2 key insurance policies.
Workers Compensation
1 Million dollars in liability insurance coverage.
The Potential for Liability is unlimited here for the Homeowner, and this is another place that most contractors will cut corners, Make sure that YOUR best interest is covered by choosing someone that has both policies in place and then ask for documented proof.
And No. 5) Do You Add Your Clients As An Additional insured? In my opinion this is where everyone gets it wrong!
If the client is not listed as the additional insured...on the contractors insurance.... then It is the client, that is at financial risk.
On a Final note, Remodel-er Magazine reports that over 40% of the work performed in Home Improvements will need to be completely replaced after 1 year, due to poor workmanship, so try to follow these guidelines suggested here as close as possible.
