Also called a marketing newsletter, a promotional or marketing newsletter is typically sent to current or prospective customers free of charge but, lately paid subscriber models have become more common. The promotional newsletter tries to turn prospects into customers and customers into repeat customers.

Relationship newsletters such as club newsletters, employee newsletters, churches newsletters, etc. focus on shared interests of the target audience. Usually distributed free, some organizations may send newsletters only to paid members which can most often be seen in closed groups with similar interests such as in internet marketing.

The expert newsletter is very common among internet marketing entrepreneurs. This type of newsletter can be very exclusive and/or be paid. The subscibers are usually followers of the owner or one of their products.
