LG eXpo is a Cool looking phone, but needs better software

By: jessie manny

I have had my LG Expo about 10 days now. It replaces an AT&T 8125 pocket pc made by HTC. I actually loved my 8125 and have resisted the temptation to interchange a working telephone until the display cracked when my cat knocked it from a excessive place. I was reluctant to purchase the LG hardware with out having handled it, and was afraid it will not be as good as an HTC device. the standard of the LG hardware is quite nice. The digital camera is much better than what I had before. The display decision is incredible as is the color and brighness and stands by itself subsequent to the Iphone and the most effective droid/android hardware. I've small arms and the slightly smaller general circumferance of the telephone allows me extra confidence when dealing with than some wider and/or thicker smartphones. I actually just like the keyboard. It has nice keys and they are firm buttons, not labled locations on a flimsy membrane.

Listed here are some of my observations:

There are numerous choices on how you can arrange the initial screen, and a couple of menu system to choose from. I am glad to use the WinMo "immediately" screen until I get extra used to the swiping thing. Lg did some good work on their branded portion of the person interface. Watch out about display screen protectors, thick or poor high quality versions can enormously deminish the overall experience of the interface. I used to be proficient with my stylus and the winmo os and it's releasing to have stylus options still available. IE has some nice options compared to days past, nonetheless there may be better browser options on the market How good to be able to sync with workplace with out putting in a bunch of apps. nicer still that remote pc access is true there on this phone. I am not as completely happy using the finger print swiper as I used to be the navigation buttons on my previous phone.

With the buttons I knew I had clicked a direction and the way a lot so, or for a way lengthy I had held it down, with the swiper it seems more random somehow. One the other hand I can swipe as an alternative and what this truly translates into is that I have to have a look at the display more to do little issues than I have been used to. In case you are a computer tech, a microsoft associate, or mainly use your smart phone for enterprise and productiveness I recommend this phone. If you are a winmo dinasaur and don't need an excessive amount of change I also advocate it. If you need a flashy toy, or are largely involved about connectivity, infotainment, and media, there are several options and this telephone is only one of them. I had not researched the supply of FM radio and was pleasantly suprised to seek out it on this phone. The FM radio works fairly well.

The phone is a great piece of hardware that has a stable really feel to it (I like the metallic really feel, if you do not mind and like plastic take a look at the Droid, feels an affordable and 'plasticy' as they come) The feel of the cellphone is great and feels solid just like the Iphone (my wife has a 3GS).

Great velocity, very responsive, the digital camera is cool and the keyboard has an important stable feel to it as well.

The only cause I give it a 2/5 is the OS. WinMo 6.5 has too many shortcomings to record and just does not have an excellent experience. No guestures like on the Iphone for looking the net, (ping zooming is manner cool) and all of the performance remains to be not designed for touch however for a stylus. Attempting to shut buttons is annoying to say the least.

You'll be able to overcome the shortcoming of WinMo 6.5 with using some 3rd party packages like SPB home. It is enough to make it usable. It's a disgrace to see such an awesome product hindered by such a poor OS. WinMo 7 is 22 months late and now pushed out to end of FY10 from what I hear. From what I hear, it's not 100% compatible with WinMo 6.1/6.5 apps and remains to be based on the WinCE core.
