Intuition in Life and Business

By: Jose Anajero

Few months ago I read Malcolm Gladwell's well known book Blink. It's about the power of first impressions.

It starts with the account of an ancient Greek statue that was about to be purchased by the Getty Museum at $10M. The museum did all the normal background inquiry to establish its authenticity. After 14 months of inquiry, the museum staff concluded that the statue is genuine and proceeded ahead buying it.

But an art historian named Federico Zeri who was asked to see the statue instantly he determined it was a fake. Two more art historians discerned it was a fake based on their first impressions. Further researches were conducted and finally it was revealed that the statue had been sculpted by forgers in Rome. The group of investigators who conducted the 14 months of exploration turned out to be incorrect. The historians who depended on their initial impressions, on the other hand, were accurate.

One of the lessons I discovered so far in my business journey is to listen to my hunch. It's not most of the time right but had I listened to my intuition I would not have exhausted so much time and effort pursuing dud bizopps.

There was one expert I trusted because his instructions vibrate with me. I studied most of his free reading materials and I waited excitedly for the release of his much expected system. I waited and waited for many months but he would not run out of reasons for withholding the launching. After several months of waiting I decided that it was by now hopeless waiting for the reason that the guy seemed to be a perfectionist and his system will by no means be perfect. Had I listened to my hunch earlier, I would not have spent much time waiting.

Usually, intuition is the deciding factor between failure and success. Although we don't completely understand what intuition is, at the gut level we all know that it is there and we can utilize it whenever needed.

We all experience, from time to time, circumstances where we should make a huge decision in spite of the absence of sufficient details. We still ought to move in spite of uncertainty and haziness. Then again, a mistaken turn could have objectionable cost.

Much has already been published about how to cultivate intuiti
on. Because I haven't proven any of them, I can't endorse them. However, as a Christian who attempts to follow God's leading, I find the Bible a beneficial guide.

Psalm 37:23-24 states "the steps of a good man are ordered by the Lord: and he delighted in his way. Though he falls, he shall not be utterly cast down: for the Lord upholdeth him with His hand."

As we look for God's guidance in our lives and as we sharpen our intuition, even if we fail, from time to time, God is at all times there keeping us. Romans 8:28 states "Everything works together for good to those who love God and are called according to His purpose."
