Internal Cleansing - 10 Easy Tips

By: Rene Robinson

The age old rumors of internal cleansing being one of the best things you can do for yourself is very slowly returning to mainstream practices in the west. Every day more and more medical doctors are advocating doing internal cleanses to help remove toxic, impacted waste from the colon. But, which internal cleanse is good, gentle enough to allow you to do everyday activities and, actually works? Well, there are several types and extremes to doing a cleanse. Let's start out with the basics. Let's start with the most gentle and then we can work our way up to the more intense in future articles. According to the recommendations of Dr. Hal Blatman and Yvonne Teverbaugh, CMES, there is not just the problem of the internal cleanse, but also in changing a few of our habits overall as well. They reiterate the old adage, "you get out what you put in", when it comes to the body. In a nutshell, they suggest:?

1. Recharge your body with every meal. To keep up that energy and stamina, we need to make sure we're consuming enough "fresh vegetables and fruits, whole grains and legumes and clean, unchlorinated and unflorinated water."?

2. Roto rooter your "bio-gunk" which, over the years, has built up in the GI tract. You can give this sludge the "boot" so to speak. Start by chewing well, which begins the whole process off right. Since you're chowing down a few times a day, then you should be eliminating at least two to three times a day, if not, then your pipes are clogged, meaning you have constipation.?

3. Become more rabbit-like and "eat plenty of fresh vegetables, six to eight servings a day of green, yellow, red, orange and white vegetables." Avoid all canned vegetables or fruits. Do your best to consume raw or slightly steamed food. Then the enzymes can get to "work to clean your digestive tract. Eat them throughout the day." FYI: "Grapefruit consumed at night has been known to help cleanse; prunes and grapes are still among nature's best laxatives." ?

4. Don't forget to help your system along with a "multi-digestive enzyme after eating your meals and before bed to help digest bulk that may be moving slowly". Keep in mind that it's just a temporary boost to the digestion "until your system can begin to use the properly combined food you will be feeding it." A word of caution: "It may be important to check with your physician or pharmacist to be sure this will not digest your medications too quickly."?

5. Please note: "Do not eat melons with any other foods. Eat them alone 20 minutes before or one hour after any other foods are consumed. Fruits do not digest in the same stomach acid and enzyme conditions as other foods, and they should not be mixed." Another word of caution: "If you suffer from ulcers, avoid digestive enzymes that contain hydrochloric acid (HCL), except under a physican's care." And don't forget to consume "aloe vera juice twice a day to aid enzyme activity in the body."?

6. Help your gut by taking "probiotic supplements like acidophilus" which help keep the good guys alive to do the work. Please note: "Live yogurt contains acidophilus, but make sure it is not sweetened with any false sugars, especially high fructose corn syrup and aspartame (Nutrasweet®). During your cleanse, acidophilus, taken twice a day, could be beneficial."?

7. Nothing like the scent of something lovely while you're trying to clean house... your physical temple, that is. Be sure to try "aromatherapy and essential oils applied to the stomach area, bottoms of the feet, ankles and behind the ear may be helpful during a cleanse. Fennel, peppermint, patchouli, juniper, grapefruit, lemongrass and tarragon are known to be antifungal, antibacterial and help encourage lymphatic drainage."?

8. As they do in countries like India and China all the time, not just during a cleanse, "drink herbal teas twice a day. Some herbs that can be helpful to a cleanse are cascara sagrada, psyllium, comfrey, flaxseed, goldenseal, hops, fennel, licorice root, peppermint and lemongrass. Be careful and get monitored if you eat licorice root or comfrey and have high blood pressure. Use caution with cayenne and cinnamon if you have skin problems."?

9. Don't forget to make sure you include your vitamins. Making sure to include "the B series and antioxidants like vitamin C complex and pycnogenols" which appear to be quite important during a cleanse.?

10. Make sure you are eliminating. As we've said before, you must "be regular." "If natural fiber and plant laxatives do not improve your bowel movements, an enema to remove damaging toxins may be necessary. Magnesium Oxide is available in capsules, and works as a laxative also." Or go to a good colon hydrotherapist if you're not up for doing this yourself at home. Most times they can produce a better result than what you would yourself at home.

According to Dr. Blatman and Yvonne Teverbaugh, CMES, "internal cleanse releases toxins from the body. Some people experience flu-like symptoms without fever, or skin eruptions that may last a couple of days as the body adjusts and flushes out toxins that have been stored deep in tissue. Detoxifying baths, 10-15 minutes in warm water with a cup of sea salt and a cup of baking soda will pull toxins out of the body through the skin. Hands-on therapy like massage, aromatherapy and detoxifying body wraps are also helpful in reducing these side effects. These treatments help move the toxins through the tissues and minimize the healing crisis. Exercise is also important." So, in other words, treat yourself and use this experience to change your habits and better your life. Good luck to everyone.
