Husky Biting - How To Stop It Easily and Quickly

By: K Tully

This item provides you a number of ways to prevent your husky from biting. Included in this article are methods to end husky biting used by husky owners that have had husky biting problems. Every husky will have a unique personality and nature and you need to keep this in mind when implementing any of these methods.

The Character of Your Husky
By nature huskies are certainly one of the least aggressive breeds. It isn't the norm for a husky to show aggression towards people. If your husky is showing aggression there's a good chance that your husky has learned this behavior from another dog or as a result of a lack of good training.

If your husky bites then it's most liable to only be play biting or nipping. Play biting and nipping is still a significant problem as it may cause injury to adults, other dogs and kids. If you want to stop husky biting it's best to train your husky out of this habit while still a young puppy.

Use of Verbal Commands and Body Language
Should your husky nip or bite you or anybody else you should ensure that your husky knows it's done wrong. Your voice is the best tool in getting your message across to your husky. By slightly raising your voice and stating ‘Don’t Bite’ in a firm tone you are getting a message across that you are not happy. Through one's body language you should definitely express your disappointment by shaking your head. Stay consistent with this method and eventually your husky will understand that their behavior just isn't tolerated. If they do, then give your husky a good amount of positive praise.

The Alligator Method
Some husky owners swear by this method. If your husky bites or nips you, gently shut their mouth with your hands. Use your other hand to keep their body still. Hold their mouth shut while ensuring that your husky can breathe through their nose. Make sure you secure your husky’s body so that they can’t struggle or scratch you. While you are closing your huskies mouth say 'no' or 'don't bite' as a verbal command. Eventually your husky will relax and at this time release your husky and give praise. Your husky may initially think you're play fighting so continue using this method until they understand what exactly is happening. If your husky is simply too large and is struggling against you this method may not be appropriate.

The Forearm Technique
If your husky is trying to bite into your arms or hands, push a forearm into their mouth Push a heavily sleeved forearm into your huskies mouth and to the back of the jaw to make it harder for him to bite down. This will deter your husky from play biting as it is no longer enjoyable.

Getting to the Root of the Husky Biting Issue
If you find that these three techniques are not successful in stopping your husky biting their will likely be an underlying reason behind it. Husky separation anxiety is understood to lead to problems such as digging, chewing and biting. It would pay to look a bit deeper into why your husky has developed this behavior. If your husky does not respond to any of these methods then do not continue with it. In no way should you physically harm your husky.
