Gardening Tools For Organic Gardeners

By: Henry Greene

While it is possible to create your organic garden without a bunch of expensive equipment, having the right gardening tools can be an amazing time saver.

As you work at learning gardening you will find that there are some tools out there that are important for specific types of projects. The best thing to do is begin with just a few tools and then buy more when you need them. These are tools that are necessary in every garden so you should make sure you have them on hand when you begin your first project.

Gardening gloves are something that every gardener should have whether you are a beginner or an expert. Gardening gloves help keep your hands healthy as you work with the various parts of your garden. Most gardeners like working the earth with their bare hands but sometimes gloves are necessary for protection. For example, when you are pruning rosebushes or other plants with thorns, you will want to wear gloves to protect yourself against scratches and being stuck.

Gloves can also protect your hands when you work with compost, fertilizers or other substances that can leave residues on your hands. Gloves can also protect your hands against bugs you might encounter on your plants or in the dirt.

For the more delicate flowers and plants, a garden space can be incredibly useful to have on hand. Spades are fantastic for digging up or uprooting weeds. They are good for moving and clearing debris away from your plants without damaging your plants' bases. You can also use them to help you plant seeds. While you probably won't put the spade to use every single day that you work in your garden, the days when you have intricate work to do around your plants will make you glad that you have your spade on hand. The spade is a versatile tool that can help with a variety of gardening tasks; it saves you time and energy!

You need to have a garden rake. Garden rakes are not the same rakes that you will use for gathering up leaves and debris in your yard. A garden rake is more sturdy and not as long and it has very strong steel teeth. Garden rakes with adjustable widths are better than those with fixed widths because you can adjust the rake to perfectly fit your project. This saves you money because you will only have to buy one rake instead of several different rakes of varying widths. Garden rakes are used to smooth and level out the dirt in your gardens.

Kneelers can also be a good idea. You are going to be spending a lot of your gardening time on your knees or crouching down. It is easy to make your own garden kneelers out of large pieces of Styrofoam or foam core. You can also buy mats made especially for gardeners. Mats and kneelers are used to help ease the wear and tear on your knees that comes from gardening. You can also protect your clothing from wear and tear by using mats and kneelers.

Working in the organic garden is how many people relax. The nice thing about growing your own garden is that it can be done throughout the year, inside and outside and your organic garden can be as big or as little as you want it to be. When you use the right gardening tools the experience is even better because you get a lot more done and are more free to just enjoy your hard work!
