Five Top Tips for Successful Article Writing

By: Danny Ellise

1. Write about the right theme
There is no point writing about a subject nobody wishes to read about. The Google Adsense key phrase device is a great free utility for identifying keyword popularity. In order to discover niche markets and to further refine your keyword search you might want to sign up to Word Tracker or purchase Keyword Elite. When you've set up your keywords make certain you include them in the name of your article, somewhere in the leading paragraph and once more in the conclusion.

2. Do your homework
Would you believe somebody who sounded as if they did not know what they were talking about? Neither would I. Make sure that you are an expert in your field before writing a sentence and always, always do some research to make sure your content is up to date. If you want to build credibility as a writer you have to write in a believable way.

3. Be honest when you write
People are not foolish -- they can detect a sales pitch a mile off. If you plaster your article with affiliate links, keep mentioning a particular Web address in your text or write a narrow rehash of someone else's work you will fail. No-one accepts this sort of thing; we are all looking for a solution to our problems, whatsoever they may be, and if you have a solution you will succeed. Write from personal practice if you are able to -- if you're reviewing a product, base your appraisal on your own first-hand understanding and don't be afraid of referring to the bad points as well as the good. It adds to the dependability, and therefore the weight of the review.

4. Be sure to write like a professional
Make sure you write in your own way, using good English and correct punctuation, and always spell check your work before you publish it. Everybody with access to a computer in this day and age has access to a word processor. The industry standard is Microsoft Word, but there are first-rate free options like Open Office or Google Documents, so there is no justification for sloppy writing.

5. Be concise
Do not be tempted to pad out your article just to reach a minimum word count . Filling one side of paper with content usually uses around 500 words, and that is where I generally finish. If you can't get your point across in five hundred words you ought to start once more. A lot of people advise writing content containing no more than 350 words but I think this is excessively brief -- to me, it always appears as if the creator can't be bothered to write any more.
