By: sanju12345

Netherlands is officially the Kingdom of the Netherlands. It is also commonly called Holland in English which refers to North-Holland and South-Holland. Also, the people, culture and language are referred to as “Dutch”. Therefore, sometimes it is a little bit confusing when it comes to the name of this country. You just need to know that whichever of the names just means the country which borders Germany to the east and Belgium to the south, with North Sea and the United Kingdom to the west.
Netherlands is a Benelux country, which is an economic union comprising three neighbouring monarchies, Belgium, the Netherlands, and Luxembourg. Recently, the country has drawn the world’s attention by fighting against the bull fighter Spain in the final match of the World Cup.
There are not so many countries with so much land below the sea level while 20% of the area and 21% of the population in Netherlands is located below sea level, and 50% of its land lies less than one metre above sea level. There are not so many countries that are this flat as much of the Netherlands is formed by the estuary of three important European rivers, namely the Rhine, the Waal and the Meuse.
There are also not so many countries that are bold to claim such a vivid colour as their town, in Netherlands’ case, it is orange.
Unique culture
It is quite shocking to know that prostitution is legalised in Netherlands which owes to its cultural tolerance. As long as these prostitutes registered at a permitted brothel not to solicit for customers on the street, no cops will interfere. Surprisingly, this phenomenon is most common in the capital city Amsterdam where red0light districts are popular. Besides their customers, a lot of tourists will just go there and have a look as a memento of the visit. This kind of tolerance spreads from homosexuality, gay marriage to the practice of Euthanasia.
Travel books to read before you go
There are some books for you to read before you visit which can make the most of your travel: Xenophobe’s Guide to the Dutch, The Dutch, I Presume?, Amsterdam, The UnDutchables, The Embarrassment of Riches.

The contents or themes of these books vary from the peculiarities of the Dutch psyche and even foibles that many Dutch themselves seem not to recognise to the epic account of Dutch culture in the Golden Age.
In terms of travelling around the country, Amsterdam is a favourite of the Netherlands. Visitors love to explore its architecture, grachten (water canals), museums and liberal attitudes.

In addition, the Netherlands has some of the best 'tap water' in the world. It is believed to be of similar quality as natural mineral or spring water and is distributed to every household and controlled by 'water authorities'.

Such a small country with so much to offer makes it the ideal location for you to experience by car. Car rental service providers such as Avis, Sixt, Hertz, Auto Europe, easyCar, Budget and Europcar will take care of your need.
