Dealing with your overly aggressive Doberman

By: Banthaggery Gallop

Even in case of a false alarm, a well trained Doberman along with a strong alpha leader will never act this way for any reason. By doing a few things, you can avoid a dangerous situation and get control of your Doberman, regardless of his age.

Identify the Reason

Your Doberman will surely have a very good reason for being aggressive. The Reason for his actions can be determined, if you look hard enough. Soon after yelling at him, you may find he is wounded, see's someone in the bushes, or perhaps his water bowl is empty, then you regret your actions. His actions could very well be justified, whether you think so or not.

Step one is to identify the main cause, and second is to intervene, this is exactly what you must do. You will normally stop the behavior, if you eliminate the trigger.

Basic Commands

If your dog does not know basic commands, you will have a hard time controlling an aggressive Doberman. You ought to teach the words "No!" as well as "Stop!" as early as possible. Always be consistent with your training and also use the same word so that your dog doesn't get baffled. If you use the "No!" command then you need to stick with it, do not all of a sudden begin using "Stop!" the next time he growles at somebody.

Your dogs protective behavior is used by him to perform his job, hence never get mad at him for it. The goal is always to control the action so your dog will stop on your command, not make him feel as though he shouldn't alert you about danger.

Socialization

Poor socialization with humans as well as other dogs, might cause your Doberman to have aggressive behavior. You can have a friendly, socialized Doberman and he can still fulfill his role as a guard dog. Your dog can be nice and gentle, and still be a great protector. If you don't want your Doberman attacking out of fearfulness, be sure to socialize him.

You are sure to have a fearless and confident Doberman, as long as he's exposed to people as well as dogs in various environments. In order to have a dog that's friendly yet attentive at most times, but can be aggressive when needed, you must socialize him.
